Electrical daily report template

Electrical work is spread across every floor and hidden behind walls within weeks. A good electrical daily report records where crews worked, what got installed and inspected before cover, and what other trades or missing information held them up.

Who fills it out

Electrical foreman for each crew, rolled up by the electrical project manager. The general contractor's superintendent reviews for manpower and coordination issues.

Every report covers

  • Date, project, location and report author
  • Weather (morning and afternoon) and its impact on work
  • Manpower and hours by company and role
  • Work completed by area or location
  • Delays, issues and hours lost
  • Deliveries and equipment on site
  • Inspections and visitors
  • Safety notes (safety meeting held, incidents, near misses)
  • Photos with captions
  • Foreman sign-off

Electrical fields to add

FieldWhy it matters
Area and system workedLevel, area and system (power, lighting, low voltage, fire alarm) so progress can be tracked by location.
Installed quantitiesConduit footage by size, wire pulled, devices set, fixtures hung, panels set. Supports pay applications and production tracking.
Rough-in inspection statusWhich areas passed, failed or are waiting, and the inspector's name. Drives when drywall can close walls.
Temporary power changesNew temp panels, cords or lighting and who requested them. Often extra work.
Energization and lockoutsWhich circuits or gear were energized or locked out, with lock owner. A safety record and a schedule milestone.
Testing performedInsulation resistance tests, continuity checks and other tests with results or reference to the test sheet.
Gear and material deliveriesSwitchgear, panels and long lead items with any damage noted on arrival.
Coordination conflictsClashes with duct, pipe or framing, and the RFI number if one was sent.

Inspections and tests to log

  • Underground and in-slab inspection
  • Rough-in inspection before cover
  • Above ceiling inspection
  • Insulation resistance and continuity testing
  • Final inspection and energization approval from the authority having jurisdiction

Weather

Weather matters most for underground, site lighting and exterior work, and for temporary power. Note rain that shut down outdoor work or tripped temporary power.

Disputes this record helps settle

  • Work installed and later damaged by other trades
  • Out of sequence work caused by late framing or ceiling grid
  • Extra temporary power requested by the general contractor or other subs
  • Delays waiting on design answers for device locations

Frequently asked questions

How detailed should installed quantities be on an electrical daily report?

Enough that a project manager can compare the day to the budget: conduit footage by size, wire pulled, devices and fixtures installed by area. Exact counts beat estimates, but an honest estimate beats a blank.

Why log rough-in inspections on the daily report?

Because the inspection result decides when walls can close. If drywall covers work before inspection or the inspection is late, the daily report is the record of what happened and when.
